Ghost Imaging: What the Blur Was Telling Us

Lab notes on pump focusing, spatial-mode decoherence, and refusing the cleanest-looking data.

In the lab, the image became less faithful as the pump was focused more tightly. The temptation was to treat that as an alignment problem and move on.

Instead, the blur became the result: tighter focusing changed the spatial correlations that the experiment depended on.

The episode also became a lesson about research ethics. A smooth narrative is not worth manufacturing from selectively chosen measurements.
